Preplanning and Logistical Considerations
Our firm provided construction management services for this information technology company. The team developed an intricate logistics plan and phased schedule to enable the successful expansion and addition of the 10,000sf and 18,000sf data centers. Additionally, Structure Tone renovated the offices of the second and third floors and relocated the cafeteria. The facility remained on-line during construction. Structural modifications were made to support the extensive infrastructure, which included removing and replacing the slab within the building. The steel building was also reinforced to accommodate overhead equipment. The new infrastructure was installed, tested and systematically tied-in to the existing system and tested once again.
Tech Specs
To facilitate the modifications and upgrades, new outdoor double-ended 26.4kV medium voltage switchgear was installed that fed six step-down transformers and the new low voltage switchgear. New paralleling switchgear was also installed to support four new 3MW generators that provide the emergency power required for the facility while maintaining the existing generator plant. Four new UPS plants as well as the associated power distribution units were included in each data centers. Mechanical upgrades consisted of additional drycoolers and CRAC units for one of the data centers while the other required DX split systems to provide the necessary cooling. The new power supply and emergency generator plant fed 18 automatic transfer switches that were connected to the existing and new distribution and UPS switchboards. All of the new switchboards were set on vaults to allow for multiple conduits to enter into the gear from the bottom.
