Communication and Planning are Keys to Success
Our firm provided construction management services for the New Jersey State Bar Foundation on the renovation of their Law Center in New Brunswick. Transforming 45,000sf of this 20-year-old building, into a state-of-the-art facility required working in an occupied space. This is always a challenge, but one that our team carefully prepared for. With daily communication, scheduling and pre-planning with the director, staff and department heads, all work activity was conducted in a safe and timely manner without disturbing operations.
Safety First
To start off the project, our team pre-planned safety meetings with all subcontractors to provide them with instruction for all phases. In addition, all new subcontractors were required to go through Structure Tone’s site-specific orientation program.
To further maintain occupant safety, our team placed various signs throughout the first and second floors. The signage provided the following information:
- construction sequencing
- bathrooms operating
- phasing schedule
- conference rooms availability
- directions to exits and away from construction zones
Project signage was updated daily in order to keep construction work coordinated with the Law Center’s daily events. With an average of 175 to 225 daily outside visitors and approximately 325 children attending mock trials once a month, updating signage let visitors know which auditoriums and conference rooms were under construction. Visitors were also made aware of which corridors and bathrooms to use.
