Managing Construction

The world’s largest retailer of natural and organic foods selected our firm to provide construction management services for their new 34,000sf store in White Plains, NY. The fit-out included multiple food stations with state-of-the-art kitchen equipment, custom millwork and three types of flooring. Located in an active shopping mall, all adjacent stores remained open and occupied throughout construction. The project was completed on time and on budget.

Site Challenges

The first level of a thriving, occupied mall in White Plains is not the typical location for a grocery store. The refrigeration for a slab-on-grade space required extensive coordination of the underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing for the project. Additional obstacles at the site included shallow ground water conditions and duct shaft and slab penetrations to the roof that were running through the Fortunoff department store above. Our staff worked closely with the landlord and Fortunoff representatives to coordinate all welding work needed for the project. Most of the work was completed in the morning hours so not to disrupt customer’s shopping experience.
