DraftKings

With the move to a new headquarters in Boston’s Back Bay, DraftKings—creator of leading fantasy sports and sports betting products—signals its commitment to growth and to Boston. The single-floor site, which united two floor plates to create over 100,000sf of office space, is designed to house the company’s growing, Boston-based staff of nearly 800.

Finding a single floor that met the needs of more than 700 employees was a challenge, but the teamwork between DraftKings, CBRE, IA, and Structure Tone made the vision come to life. To start, the two separate floor slabs had been poured at different times and were not the same height. The team added a steel plate over the expansion joint between the floors to bolster them and create an even foundation for floor finishes.

Technology is also critical to the space and is embedded everywhere, which provides the DraftKings team the tools necessary to innovate and operate their high-tech platforms. The design called for a variety of customizable lighting systems to reinforce the company’s sports and technology focus. Combined with DraftKings’ sophisticated data analysis systems, the team worked closely to integrate and coordinate these systems within a comprehensive A/V network and the building’s MEP infrastructure.

While working on the project, the Structure Tone team also had to negotiate around other projects in the building, including the fit-out of another 200,000sf space. We worked closely with building management and the other construction team to ensure the schedules for moving materials, integrating MEP systems, tenant move-in, and other stages could move forward smoothly.

Structure Tone was committed to delivering a new headquarters that accommodated DraftKings’ continued growth and gave them a place to showcase their pioneering, real-time use of technology. We worked closely with DraftKings and the entire project team, from preconstruction through move-in, to ensure the schedule left enough room for change while still meeting DraftKings’ occupancy needs. As a result, the project was delivered on the exact day identified in the project schedule—and under budget. As the client put it, “DraftKings was truly blown away, not just by the actual finished product and attention to detail, but by the truly perfect execution.”
