Kane County Public Safety Complex

The Kane County Public Safety Complex is a two-story building comprised of internal multi-jurisdictional law enforcement agencies, administration, and training offices. The facility also acts as a Utah Highway Patrol substation and serves as the 911 Dispatch Center for Kane County, part of Coconino County (AZ), the Kaibab Tribe, and federal and state parks. The facility can house 192 inmates and has several state-of-the-art features, including:

  • Camera systems to monitor and record inmates
  • Touchscreen monitors to control inmate movements
  • Video visitation stations
  • Kitchen & laundry facility
  • Classrooms
  • Chapel

The project’s original budget of $15M was initially thought to be a construction budget, but it needed to include soft costs and FF&E. Layton was able to manage costs down to $13.4M through multiple design-assist charettes and budget reviews involving the owner, designers, Layton, and design-assist subcontractors. In 2019, Layton was selected to remodel the corrections facility at the same location.
