MIT Beaver Works

MIT Beaver Works Aero Astro is a joint facility shared between MIT Lincoln Laboratory and MIT School of Engineering. It is open to all MIT students, faculty, and collaborators for science, research, and education. Structure Tone worked with MIT to complete renovations at this 10,000sf multi-use space.

The phased renovation included custom millwork, custom light fixtures, a frameless glass sliding wall system, and extensive MEP installations in a highly congested space of existing utilities.  Coordination and installation of fume hoods, point-of-use snorkels, and a specialty coatings booth in the depths of the building required creative solutions on a tight schedule.

The new space consists of lounge areas, meeting rooms, a prototyping shop, and a lab area. The custom millwork seating is on wheels to allow for flexibility and different configurations. The large glass wall also allows the main space to be broken up into smaller classrooms and conference rooms.

Structure Tone suggested a mobilization date a month later than MIT originally proposed. This extra time allowed for the proper coordination and release of the MEPs, required supports and NanaWall frameless glass system. We were able to start on the internal pre-coordination process and release of materials immediately upon award of the project. This was imperative for the continuous work flow and efficient manpower scheduling.
