Tufts University, Bromfield-Pearson Hall

Structure Tone has been a partner with Tufts University since 2010, and truly enjoys meeting the challenges of construction on their historically significant campus.

This particular exterior restoration project for Bromfield-Pearson Hall included the complete demolition and installation of a new slate roof, re-pointing and cleaning of all the exterior brick, and the replacement of all windows at the dormers. Safety, as always, was our number one priority. For a project of this nature, we took precautions by erecting scaffolding around the exterior of the building to protect all campus visitors. Because this is an older building, the pitch of the building roof was steeper than most; all roof workers were safely harnessed to the building.

One of the biggest challenges our team faced during this project was preplanning for the weather. Being completely at the mercy of the local forecast and having a tight summer schedule to meet, extreme preplanning was key to our success. Our project team brought the selected subcontractors onto the project site two months prior to the start of construction. Weekly team building meetings were organized to brainstorm, coordinate and plan out an intense summer schedule that anticipated weather delays.
