It is open to all MIT students, faculty, and collaborators for science, research and education. Structure Tone worked with MIT to complete renovations at this 10,000sf multi-use space.

Renovating an occupied, historic building in the heart of Midtown Manhattan is tough. And the project at 640 Fifth Avenue was no exception, requiring a unique combination of construction management and logistics to redevelop the 267,000sf, 18-story office building, as well as add three stories on top.
Built in 1927 as a residential hotel for women, the Barbizon was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. After acquiring the property in 2002, Berwind Property Group determined to convert it to luxury condos in 2004, bringing in Cetra/Ruddy as designers and Pavarini McGovern as builders.

The Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine is a four-story, 500,000sf ambulatory care and cancer center located on the campus of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The pavilion was designed to serve as the central hub of a modular and expandable complex—the largest capital project undertaken by the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
This project included the construction of a new, 216,000sf patient tower, significant renovations to the existing hospital and infrastructure upgrades. Located on the edge of the University City neighborhood, this project expands critical care services offered by the hospital, relocating the base of operations for Penn’s trauma center to meet the changing needs of West Philadelphia and adjoining communities, and increasing the health system’s overall care capacity.
The 469,000sf Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, located on the Avenue of the Arts at Broad and Spruce Streets in Philadelphia, PA provides the city with both a concert hall and a multiuse theater. Encompassing the Verizon Hall and Perelman Theater is a four-story, 140,000sf glass and steel barrel vault roof that sits atop the cantilevered floor decks of the fourth level of the building. Unique are the 12,000sf glass curtain walls at each end, made up of more than 500 panes of glass, each pane measuring 22sf.

Delivering Advanced Medical Facilities with Thoughtful DesignHackensack Meridian Health, a long-term client of LF Driscoll, embarked on a 433,400sf expansion for the region’s only university hospital: Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC) in Neptune, New Jersey. Completed in 2009 after three years, it has become the largest hospital in the country with LEED® Gold certification.
Boston College’s Earth & Environmental Sciences Department needed a new lab to house its geochemistry work, specifically its isotope geochemistry research. Building a space that properly accommodates such complex scientific pursuits came with some challenges, from fitting together the necessary equipment to ensuring the lab met stringent standards for a controlled environment—all within a very short timeframe.
While their new medical school was underway, Hofstra University students and faculty needed a space to continue their cutting-edge study and research in facilities that met their high standards.
Our firm managed the construction of the headquarters office at 250 West 55th Street for Kaye Scholer, now merged with Arnold & Porter in a new firm called Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer. This fit-out project took place on the concourse, floors 3 through 12 and a portion of the 13th floor, totaling approximately 260,000sf. Morgan Hall North is North Philadelphia’s tallest building, at 27 stories, and occupies an entire city block. The post-tensioned concrete residential tower features a combination of singles, four-bed and five-bed apartment suites that are arranged like neighborhoods and accompanied by two-story glass-enclosed lounges.
Starting with white-box conditions, our team was tasked with delivering a highly collaborative design, which included over 500 open office stations. The combination of hot desk configurations and team huddle pods with other work station designs provides a mix of personal and public work environments.
When Southwest Airlines wanted to refresh its 3,500-person corporate headquarters in Dallas, they were looking to address a now common goal: to replace the segregated, hierarchical corporate style of the past with an open.

The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum uses state-of-the-art exhibits and media to immerse visitors in the story of Texas. This building covers a whole city block and is within sight of the Texas State Capitol. It has become a “destination feature” of the Capitol Complex in Austin. The Texas Legislature directed the State Preservation Board (SPB) to oversee the design, construction and governance of The Texas State History Museum (later named for the late House Speaker Bob Bullock).

Structure Tone was awarded the fit-out project for Heineken Ireland. The project involved the remodeling of a previously occupied space and full upgrades to all M&E services and fittings within the area.
This fit-out was completed on budget and within the initial programme that was agreed upon with Indeed and their design team. During the tendering process, Structure Tone offered some value engineering options as part of our tender documentation, and on appointment, we worked with Indeed and their design team to investigate these VE options further without compromising the quality, the aesthetic or the programme that Structure Tone had committed to.
Structure Tone managed the complete renovation and fit-out of two floors of corporate office space for the Philadelphia, PA, branch of Grant Thornton LLP, the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd.
Phase I encompassed the fit-out of floors 19, 20 and 21, and the build-out of the 12th floor server room. At the conclusion of this phase, 12th-floor workers were moved to the completed floors and the phase-two fit-out of the remainder of the 12th floor began.
Our team worked diligently together with the college to develop a cost-effective scope that included new flooring, carpet and VCT, paint, lighting, A/V equipment, Tel/Data, life safety equipment, millwork masonry and signage.

The new 90,000sf Barnes Foundation building houses a world-renowned art collection in galleries that replicate the original Merion, PA, galleries. A work of art in itself, the steel-frame concrete structure features stone panels from Israel, a glass curtain wall exterior, and custom materials on the interior such as wood and stone floors, plaster ceilings and custom woodwork. We used BIM to coordinate and implement all architectural and structural plans, and building systems—heating, plumbing, mechanical and electrical—as well as the underground utilities, including construction of three underground infiltration basins to enable collected storm water from the buildings and site to infiltrate into the ground.
