Georgia Regents University Cancer Research Lab

The Wistar Institute is a world leader in biomedical research, with a focus on cancer research, genetics, vaccine development, training, and outreach.

To meet their current and future programmatic needs, the Georgia Department of Public Safety (GDPS) needed a new Service Building. The goal was to provide one facility for all new State Troopers to visit directly after their initial training, in order to get outfitted with all of the necessary equipment to perform their jobs. GDPS envisioned a two-story structural steel frame building constructed adjacent to the existing GDPS headquarters. When completed, the new facility will include a mix of offices and open workstations, and feature an employee lounge area, billeting space, a machine shop, a garage area for outfitting trooper’s vehicles, secure storage for weapons and ammunition, a computer workshop, a 3,500lb freight elevator, as well as general storage and support spaces.

The scope of work associated with the GDPS Service Building included the design and construction of a new 33,000sf facility and approximately 42,000sf of paved area around the new building. The team also demolished an existing 6,000sf metal building currently located on the property near the site of the new facility. Once demolished, the footprint of this building was paved over to create an additional 7,000sf of paved area.
